Problem
Information technology provides the opportunity to more easily access and re-use the wealth of information held in the public sector thus providing the opportunity to transform municipal organisation and provide faster, more responsive services. The potential to increase efficiency, cut costs, increase transparency and speed up standard administrative processes for citizens and business is not realized in European Union municipalities. And there is an important gap between the European municipalities and South East European municipalities regarding the use of Information Technology in administration working procedures and services to citizens. Improvement of municipal work and services to citizens is essential for the Information Society development in SEE, as identified by the SEEmunIS pre-project.
